Despite the advances in caries prevention, early childhood caries (ECC) is a frequently encountered reality in the dental office. The maxillary primary anterior teeth are usually affected in the early stages of ECC, with early pulpal involvement and destruction of the crown structure. The management of grossly decayed maxillary anterior teeth presents a challenge to the clinician. This case report describes the placement of a fixed appliance to replace missing maxillary incisors and discusses the factors to consider before treatment planning.

Intraoral appliances such as transpalatal arch and Nance appliance fail to resist forces that tend to loosen the anchorage. The infirmity arises due to the long-lever arm and the mesial force that is perpendicular to the long axis of the appliance. The butterfly arch is presented here as an intraoral appliance that withstands the mesially directed forces with a mechanism that puts strain on a stiff wire along its long axis. The unique shape of the butterfly arch is advantageous in maximum anchorage cases, cases in which arch width preservation is critical and cases with a vertical growth pattern. With the aid of the butterfly arch, clinical concerns such as patient cooperation, wearing extraoral appliances, complicated mechanics in extraction cases, and control of the arch length, arch width, and vertical dimension would be greatly diminished.

This case report describes in detail the case selection, tooth preparation, laboratory procedures, and cementation of veneers on maxillary anterior teeth.

Background: During the fixed orthodontic appliance treatment, patient’s knowledge, motivation, cooperation, and attitude toward treatment are key factors of oral hygiene maintenance. Very little is known about periodontal health awareness among orthodontic patients. Objective: The aim of this study was to report on periodontal health awareness among orthodontic patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 1000 orthodontics patients were included in this study. Subjects who were currently wearing upper and lower fixed orthodontic appliances were included in the study. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire (demographic characteristics, subjects’ awareness toward their periodontal health). Results: The majority of subjects were in the moderate level of awareness group (52%). Conclusion: There is a need for improvement of teeth brushing during fixed orthodontic treatment and the importance of following oral health advice given by the dentist.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practices among gynecologists regarding oral health care of expectant mothers in Navi Mumbai by using questionnaire. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 gynecologists were selected randomly, and a comprehensive questionnaire was distributed among them. Results: The result showed that majority of the gynecologists had good knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding oral health care. Conclusion: Gynecologist’s attitude and practices can be improved by oral health care–promoting strategies. Oral health care of expectant mother should be addressed by multi-professional approach. Perinatal oral health care should be provided by all gynecologists, and pediatric dentist should be a part of this team.

Background: Awareness about dental implants is increasing among patients, and patient satisfaction after treatment with implants is prone to be affected by the disparity between extremely high expectations and the final outcomes. Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the factors, which could affect patient satisfaction and the single implant treatment plans supported by dentists. Materials and Methods: All patients who received single implant treatments between June 2019 and December 2019, from all the dental clinics in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India, were included. According to the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 questionnaire (Hongxing L, List T, Nilsson IM, Johansson A, Astrøm AN. Patient Prefer Adherence 2019;13:695-704), the Oral Implant Impact Profile Questionnaire was reorganized to contain 15 questions (Q1–Q15) related to satisfaction with the dental implant. Results: The level of patient satisfaction with implant treatment scored positive (mean scores >4). The mean satisfaction score ranged from 4.43 to 4.91 in the 15 items, suggesting that single implant treatments for missing teeth met the expectations of patients. Conclusion: It is essential to raise the general awareness of oral implants and to optimize the dental implant therapeutic processes as much as possible, both of which are conducive to enhance patient satisfaction in dental clinics.
